310B welding: joining metal takes skill.
Originally published
Two pieces of metal can look joined. Understanding the work takes more than looking at the finished seam. Skilled Trades Ontario lists welding among the subjects in 310B in-school training.
Watch the preparation
On a supervised shop visit, ask a technician how they prepare for a weld and check their work. Stay in the visitor area. Do not handle equipment; follow the shop’s instructions about supervision and protective equipment.
Learn with guidance
310B apprenticeship combines workplace training and classes. A demonstration can spark interest, but watching a video does not prove a skill or automatically earn apprenticeship credit. Practical learning needs supervision and feedback.
Bring a useful question
Ask: “What should a learner understand before practising a weld?” Bring that question to your teacher, guidance counsellor or apprenticeship sponsor. Jordan’s shop visit shows how a conversation can help you explore a next step.
