310B: the protection you may not see.
Originally published
A shiny panel catches your attention. During a supervised shop visit, try a different question: what protects the repaired area after the visible work is done? Corrosion protection appears in Ontario’s 310B curriculum.
Ask what the protection does
Ask a technician to explain where protection is needed on a repair they can safely discuss. What information guides the choice? This is a chance to understand the reasoning, not a set of instructions for applying a product.
Look beyond the colour
A useful follow-up is: how does the team check that this part of the work is complete? Listen to the explanation from the visitor area. Do not touch coatings, open containers or enter an active repair area.
Keep one useful question
Write down something you would like to learn and take it to a teacher, guidance counsellor or apprenticeship sponsor. A shop visit can spark an interest; it does not prove a skill or automatically count as apprenticeship training.
Watch Jordan ask questions during a shop visit
Jordan’s story is a fictional AI-generated illustration with English audio; it does not show an operating Elite Auto college.
